The Engineering
The Braun Series 9 Pro+ centers on Pro SensoAdapt, Braun's power-control system. According to Braun, it reads beard density 300 times per second and automatically adjusts the motor's power, so the head keeps the same efficiency and glide on dense patches and sparse ones: Braun says it copes with up to a 7-day beard. The practical result is consistent closeness across the whole face without any user adjustment.
The head uses what Braun calls 5+1 foil technology: two stainless-steel Gliding Foil blades for closeness, a SkinGuard element that protects the skin, a Direct&Cut blade and a Lift&Cut blade for flat-lying and multi-directional hairs, plus a built-in Precision ProTrimmer for mustache and sideburn edges. It is designed to glide rather than tug, which Braun says helps reduce redness, razor burn and irritation.
It is 100% waterproof, so it works dry, with foam or gel, or in the shower, and it runs for up to 60 minutes cordless. The shaver is made in Germany, and Braun backs it with a warranty of up to 5 years (terms and conditions apply on Braun.com).

The spare-head bundle is worth it only if you plan to keep the shaver for years, since Braun's 94M replacement head was not sold by Amazon itself when we checked. If you want to save, the previous-generation Series 9 Pro 9465cc still has a cleaning station and costs about $260.
Running Costs: Cleaning Cartridges
The SmartCare center uses Braun Clean & Renew cartridges, and Braun says to replace a cartridge every two months. A 4-pack costs about $23 (eight months) and a 6-pack about $35 (a full year), both sold by Amazon, so budget around $35 a year.
