Therabody's Theragun and Hyperice's Hypervolt are the two premium massage gun lines, and they have converged on features: both now offer heat, app routines and travel models. The differences that remain are the handle, the noise, how heat is delivered, and what each brand tells you about its specs.
This comparison matches the two lines model by model, using each brand's published specifications and our massage gun and Theragun guides. Prices come from Amazon at our last check.
Choose Theragun if you will treat your own back and shoulders: the patented triangle grip gives you several holding positions. Therabody also publishes depth specs for its line (the Pro has a 16 mm amplitude, per our Theragun guide), and its Plus models add heat and optional cold and vibration attachments.
Choose Hypervolt if you want a quieter, lighter, conventional handle and a heated head included as standard on the Hypervolt 3 and 3 Pro.
Best of each: Theragun PRO Plus and Hypervolt 3 Pro. Best travel: Theragun Mini and Hypervolt Go 3.

Theragun vs Hypervolt: What Actually Differs
Grip. Theragun's triangle handle is the biggest design difference: you can hold it from three sides, which makes your own back, shoulders and glutes reachable without help. Hypervolt uses a pistol shape with a slanted, pill-shaped handle on the 3-series, which feels natural for legs and arms.
Noise. Hyperice markets QuietGlide across the Hypervolt range, and quietness is the line's signature. Therabody's newer guns are also quieter than older ones (the Mini 3rd Gen is 30% quieter than the original, by Therabody's figures).
Heat. Both now heat. Hyperice includes a Heated Head attachment with the Hypervolt 3 and 3 Pro; Therabody builds heat into the Prime Plus, Mini Plus and PRO Plus, and the Plus models accept optional cold and vibration attachments.
Specs. The numbers that best predict deep-tissue performance are amplitude (how far the head travels) and stall force (how hard you can press before the motor stalls), as our massage gun guide explains. Therabody publishes them for its line; Hyperice's listings do not, and third-party figures for Hypervolt models disagree, so we do not quote them.

How We Compared
We compared each brand's published specifications and our existing massage gun reviews. Because Hyperice does not publish amplitude or stall force on its listings, and third-party figures disagree, we compare on what both brands document. We did not test the guns hands-on for this article.
